What a WEIRD week. On Monday night Crush and I were chatting online, like old times of October to December. It was nice to catch up with him as busy schedules – mainly on his end – and the holidays really interrupted our getting to know one another. I had been starting to suffer from a little “Absence makes the heart grow fungus” syndrome.

See the resemblance?

As we were chatting about life and dating it came up that he had met someone new from okC. On its own this information wasn’t really that big a deal. Our relationship has a conspiring feel to it as we normally discuss his dates with other women, to a degree, mainly from a “I didn’t fuck her, you’re still going to be the first in a while.” angle. (I freely admit that it would always give me a little squee knowing that, as silly as it sounds.) So when I found out that he had met someone and she had beat me to the punch, so to speak, it was pretty upsetting news.

Actually, let me clarify. The fact that Crush dates other people isn’t what upset me – it was more the fact that our relationship set-up, based around sharing of information had suddenly changed without my knowledge. It wasn’t “Hey so there’s this girl I’ve messaged and we’re going to try and set up a date.” It was more; “Yeah so we met already and so on.” I simply felt a little shell shocked.

I made sure to explain to him that I totally support him dating and he gets that. In fact he was great at talking me through the upset and getting to the heart of the matter, which I appreciated. He’s really good at communicating in general especially since he deals so well with my occasional craziness. It really seems like we have known each other a lot longer than just October.

Anyway. So he sends me a link to the new gals profile (let’s call her Ava) and damn is she stunning. I mean, come on … how hilarious that Steph and I had just been talking about our ideal “type” not 2 days prior and suddenly I see this face pop up on my screen. Color me surprised when, no more than 45 minutes later, I see a message in my inbox from the gorgeous gal herself.

Not only is she being super sweet, complimentary and flirty but Ava shared a piece of info with me that caused me to laugh hysterically. She had recently found my blog online and it was one of the last pushes for her and her husband to jump into non-monogamy.

So in a way … it’s kinda’ my fault that she and Crush even met in the first place.

Bahahahaha.

And the story just gets weirder from there. As it turns out Ava’s husband has had a couple of dates with Ruby the gal that Steph’s been seeing for over a year.

And then RUBY notices another connection … she and Crush slept together last spring before he hit a rough patch.

What’s the moral of this story? Well … if you’re looking for a random present to buy yours truly, might I suggest a Kevin Bacon mask? I seem to be doing a pretty grand job at six degreesing people.

Next task … flow chart???

(Or I guess you’d probably rather hear about my dates with both Crush and Ava this past week, huh? No no, not together, separately. Though I will not deny that the together thought is an option my mind enjoys entertaining!)

Last Friday Steph, @ccath, @bondean and I headed down to the Palais Royale on Lakeshore West for Fake Prom 2009. The “theme” was Film Noir, and while many people kinda’ butchered it according to the purists it was definitely enjoyable after a long week of work to get dolled up, look around a fancy room and see plenty of guys and dolls in vintage (looking) attire and hair styles.

Random guests I asked to look candid for me at Fake Prom 2009

There wasn’t much to do at the event besides wait in line for drink tickets and drinks, followed by drinking those drinks, dancing and popping the prom balloons. Luckily for us we snagged a table close to the door where we could just sit and watch people coming in, and then check them out as they waited in the line ups. The vibe was a rare mixture of pretentious and completely easy going. The music was amazing with a great selection of hits from all decades. Every song made me want to cheer, although I was pretty drunk so don’t take my word for it.

@stephgoulet and I ham it up for the camera at Fake Prom 2009

I was having a great time flirting excessively with the bartenders and telling random people how great they looked while Steph chatted at the table with our lady friends. I must send a thanks to the girl that stopped to tell me I was beautiful and the red suit guy for telling me I looked fabulous. As well as apologies to the suspenders guy for my drunken insistence that he looked like Sterling Cooper, the fictitious ad agency – not even a person, Samantha! And it’s not that it wasn’t fun enough to admire – and critique – fashions all night but the universe decided that we needed a little more drama to make the evening complete.

This drama came in a few entertaining forms. The first being the arrival of … the Kids. There they were, no more than 10 feet away from us in line to get drink tickets with some of their friends. The line was moving so slowly that it felt they were beside us forever and even when they got out of it and grabbed their drinks, they still ended up standing behind us pretty much the ENTIRE NIGHT. I suppose it’s always strange to see an ex when you’re single, but when it’s your ex and your partner’s ex all at once … it’s well … it’s weird! I’d had a bit of an appetizer to the situation the week or so prior when I saw S at a restaurant, but it didn’t make it any less bizarre to see him at Fake Prom.

It’s one thing to see an ex that you’re still civil with but after his last email to me I cut S right out of my life in every social media accessible form. There wasn’t really going to be any pleasantries on either side – although later when I was really drunk I did think about saying hello. When we were leaving, Steph was accosted by the girl half of the Kids and she and I were forced to exchange very uncomfortable, drunken “Hey, how are you’s?” before I had to cut their conversation off to go and grab our taxi.

In addition to the Kids, we ran into Steph’s ex (now good friend) B. That was nice but I hadn’t seen her in almost a year so it was a bit strange. Mainly because I suddenly realized at that moment how many people no more than 15 ft. from me I had been naked with at one point or another in my life! My brain drunkenly imploded at that very moment. Or was that Steph popping a prom balloon? I’ll never know for sure …

To top it all off, in the middle of a drunken serenade to @bondean of ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’, I ran right into a boy from okCupid who had also messaged me on Facebook. Over a year ago. And I remembered his name. (We are now FB friends as a result.) How random is that!

Around 2 am, we got soaked in the pouring rain waiting for a cab, finally made it home and then had a drunken fight until around 4 am. We actually learned a lot of stuff from that fight so I’ll share it with you soon.

My final verdict on Fake Prom? A lot more fun than I was expecting it to be, accompanied with a heaping of awkward drama to keep us on our toes.

My coworker, who yes is East Indian, just got this email from this guy on Lava Life. For the record, she is mainly on Lava because it’s amusing. It is fun for us all to read the emails that these people send to her because so many of them are reeeeediculous. What is it about the internet that makes people feel they can offer unsolicited advice, such as this?

(Ok, granted … my blog is all about offering unsolicited advice, but I don’t send it to your email address, now do I?)

you are online pretty much 24/7 – not sure what it is with east indian women in general but they simply look and look and look … for years and years in some cases and NEVER do – be honest – when was the last time you actually went on a date with anyone from here? – I doubt you ever go because I always see you here – do not get me wrong – I am fond of east indian women – I have dated a few too – but you all seem the same – you like men to chase you – i know many of you are into astrology and perhaps it is a cultural thing – and also I think in general east indian women are traditionally used to arranged marriages – probably you are born and raised here – but still i think one reason you look so much is because you really are not used to it … am I so wrong?

i will give you some advice – do your best to find someone before you are 30 if you really want to get married and have a family – there are 8431 women online in toronto alone between 18-40 and more than half of them are over 30 … which means they did not get married and very likely will not get married – they are so fixated with looking for The One – their Soul Mate – Mr. Nice Guy – Mr. Right Guy – that the truth is – he does not exist – if he did then they would have found him … I am certain you believe in a soul mate because I know a little of east indian culture…but I think if it is true you should have found him by now …

hope this helps you … sure you are an attractive women … and maybe a nice person too … but how will I ever know? … you always stay home

I am sure it is not easy for you to decide…

My experience on Lavalife was much different when I first opened up my relationship. But then again, I was on Intimate Encounters so I didn’t care so much about the words people said.

I’m kidding! … Kind of …
